Designing a public space requires more than you can see. Layout, flow, number of seats, sound and lighting are all involved. One of the most important parts of this puzzle is to carefully plan the choice of materials used in the space. Designers can choose from plastic, glass, metal, or wood, not to mention different materials and foams. The options can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to balancing the aesthetics of the material with its ease of use, durability, durability and safety. In order to make more environmentally friendly choices in our lifestyle and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, it is a top priority to think in an environmentally friendly way when designing public places. Wood is one of the most popular materials, so the Green Furniture Concept considers it an easy and natural choice when designing for the future.
1.Wood is renewable
First, wood is the most environmentally friendly raw material. It is playable. In fact, wood is the only building material made from the carbon in the sun, rain, and air. It is infinitely playable and playable. It’s great when you think about it. Wood is a raw material that grows and is replaced every year. Many wonders if logging is environmentally friendly. Fortunately, this is not a problem with the selective collection, unlike open cutting. In fact, it is good for forest health.
And trees are growing everywhere. Currently, according to this short video from reThink Wood, reforestation and tree growth in the United States exceeds yields by 40%.
In fact, according to media sources, “In the United States, deforestation was offset by reforestation between 1990 and 2010. During that period, the country added 7,687,000 acres (18,995,000 acres) of forest area.”
In Europe, forests are managed to support manufacturing. In fact, they are expanding at a rate of 5,000 square kilometers per year. When a tree is selectively harvested, a new tree is planted there. In fact, between 1990 and 2005, Europe again cultivated forests as large as Greece.
2.Wood is a preservative
Consider that trees have survived and prospered in nature since the beginning of time, despite the threat of some dangerous microbes, bacteria and viruses. Also, don’t forget that chefs around the world have used wooden pegs for centuries to cut and cook raw fish, chicken, and meat. These two facts may seem unrelated, but they have one thing in common. Wood is naturally an antiseptic and an antiviral, so both are possible. In other words, wood has the ability to naturally prevent the growth of disease-causing microorganisms.
Green Furniture is reassuring to know that wood is one of the safest materials for public spaces. Studies testing the survival of wood and plastic bacteria have shown that pine and oak are superior to plastic in terms of antibacterial activity *. You can also increase the natural ability of wood against bacteria and viruses by using a natural wax finish such as the natural preservative beeswax. Similar to the beeswax effect, green furniture finishes all furniture with natural hard wash oil from Karnauba palm and bees.
3.Wood feels good
Are wooden seats more comfortable than upholstered seats? Many wouldn’t think so, but the Green Team disagrees! By basic logic, many can conclude that pillow seats are soft and comfortable, and wooden seats are hard and uncomfortable. This may seem like a fair deduction, but it shouldn’t be true. A well-designed wooden chair is as comfortable as an upholstered chair. It all depends on the curvature of the ergonomic tree. When the wooden seats are designed to shape the body properly, they provide a very comfortable and supportive seating experience despite their rugged appearance. On the other hand, if the pillow sheet is constructed with minimal curvature and poor filling, it will feel very uncomfortable despite its soft appearance.
4.Good for the climate
Wood products are healthy for our climate and prevent climate change. First, trees absorb carbon throughout their lives. They take it out of the atmosphere and store it in the trunk as it grows. But that’s not all.
When trees become wood products, they continue to store their carbon. Use solid wood furniture to prevent climate change and the greenhouse effect.
But that’s not all. Finally, burning wood as energy allows us to recover the solar energy stored in the wood at the end of the product life cycle. Reusing wood for such energy is a great way to replace dirty, non-renewable, carbon-emitting energy sources such as coal, oil, and natural gas.
Compared to oil, coal, and natural gas, burning wood produces clean energy and no waste.
5.Tree means lean
This is another reason why wood is so good in terms of sustainability. Technological advances over the last few decades have made wood production a zero-waste industry. What do you mean?
By-products at each stage of the manufacturing process can be reused and reused. When timber is harvested, some are converted to lumber, some are converted to other timber products, and most are recycled for energy production. But it’s not in vain.
- This is why DCI can maintain a zero-waste policy, which is at the core of the green vertical integration process. This is how we use wood that is not used in our furniture.
- Bark is used for gardening materials.
- Sawdust is used on local farms or burned as fuel for heating.
- Raw woodblock prints are reused for pallets of other building materials.
- Finally, instead of buying poplar or other seeds, use the remaining wood to build the interior furniture components.
6.Dignified aged wood
We have all seen old leather bags and briefcases with scratches, creases and marks all over the surface. These types of vintage pieces tend to be very valuable because they are more individual than they were when they were new. Similarly, unlike most other materials used in furniture design, wood has a dignified age, which adds great value to the surface of used wood. In fact, the older the tree, the more interesting and complex it looks.
Wood is a particularly durable material that has withstood many years of trials for centuries. The key to maintaining the appearance of the wood surface for several years is to give it the right finish. Lacquered and colored wood tends to dry and crack over time. The ideal way to round wood is to use hard wax oil, which forms long-term molecular bonds with the wood, rather than simply softening the surface and letting it dry over time.
7.Wood is a circular material
Wood is a renewable material that has been freely used for centuries. But today, it is more important than ever to use certified and responsible timber to ensure environmental sustainability.
Green invests in a strong replanting program each year because this material can grow naturally. We plant trees for each product we sell and close the biological cycle that begins when the trees we use are cut down. We focus our replanting efforts on critical locations. The most biodiversity and complex forests in the world are rainforests. That’s why I decided to replant most of the trees in Colombia. Green recently achieved its goal of becoming more active in climate change.
8.The tree has a classic beauty
There is an essential warmth that can be felt in the interior when the designer incorporates wood and furniture into the project. Unlike other man-made materials, the use of wood indoors mimics the effects of time spent outdoors in nature. In fact, studies have confirmed that the presence of wood indoors is associated with improved physiological and psychological well-being. It can lower blood pressure and heart rate, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase positive social interactions.
Above all, wood has withstood the challenges of time. From historic castles to modern Scandinavian furniture, wooden designs have adapted over time, but what remains unchanged is the classic and timeless beauty of this material.
9. Wood is durable and long-lasting.
In terms of its weight, wood is the most powerful building material on the planet. It’s very tough and requires little maintenance (think about wood!).
Unlike plastic laminates, wood laminates and other laminated lumber, wood can have multiple lives by repainting.
In fact, the residences of the University of California, Dartmouth College, and the University of Maryland have convenient furniture that was installed over 30 years ago. Therefore, we can confidently guarantee all furniture for 25 years.
